About this tool

Type any number and read it in words, in the Indian system (45,50,000 is forty-five lakh fifty thousand) or the international one (4.55 million). The rupees mode formats it the way cheques and invoices want: Forty-five lakh fifty thousand rupees only, with paise handled.

Everyone who has hesitated over a cheque or an invoice amount-in-words line knows why this exists. The conversion is instant, local and copyable with one click.

How it works

  1. Enter your numbers and pick the options.
  2. The result updates live as you type.
  3. Everything is calculated on your device, nothing is saved or sent.

Frequently asked questions

How do lakh and crore map to millions?

One lakh is 100,000 (0.1 million) and one crore is 10,000,000 (10 million). The same number reads differently in the two systems, which is why the tool offers both.

How should the amount in words be written on a cheque?

Use the rupees mode: it produces the standard form ending in 'only', for example Twelve thousand five hundred rupees and fifty paise only. Write it exactly, and draw a line through leftover space.

How large a number can it convert?

Up to 99,99,99,99,99,999 in the Indian system (about 100 trillion internationally). Decimals are read digit by digit, or as paise in rupees mode.
